Rideļi: Mill Museum, Lake and Trails

Rideļu dzirnavas was built in 1863 and was included in the European Cultural Heritage of Industrial Culture in 2002. Rideļu Mill Lake lies in the Kalnupe Valley.

The history of Rideļu dzirnavas also includes the period after the 1920 land reform: at that time, the mills came into the possession of the Kambala family. Rideļi Estate is also one of four manors that have survived to this day in the Sēme parish. These two historical connections distinguish the place from a purely waterside excursion destination.

The Mill Museum is housed on three floors of Rideļu dzirnavas. The museum also features the educational short film “No grauda līdz maizei”.

Rideļu Mill Lake has a special SUP route through a reed-covered labyrinth. This is a clearly defined water experience and differs from an ordinary trip across an open lake. A specific route is also documented for a cycling tour. The “Over the hills and to the sea” route can be extended from Zentene through Rideļi, past Rideļu dzirnavas, toward Engure and the sea. The extension covers 7 km of gravel road and 15 km of paved road in each direction. This means that route selection depends not only on the destination but also on the change in surface.

The COPE café near Rideļu dzirnavas offers a pancake experience. Guests fill their own pancakes with sweet or savory ingredients. The house café “Pieturvieta – Rideļu Lodes” serves guests as part of House Café Days, offering a late breakfast as well as lunch and dinner. The property includes a nearly two-hundred-year-old residential building with a preserved mantel chimney.

The Re-Starta zona countryside sauna offers various sauna rituals with one or more sauna masters. After the sauna ritual, there is an opportunity to stay overnight on a rural farm.
