Łapczyca has the remains of a medieval hillfort and is described by the authority of Bocheńskie County as one of the oldest settlements in southern Poland and as a significant settlement center of the Bocheńskie region.

The old Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Łapczyca is a Gothic stone church; the associated parish is first documented in 1325–1327. Today, the church serves as a cemetery chapel.

Łapczyca lies on the northern edge of the Pogórze Wielickie hills and the southern edge of the Raba Valley. The remains of the historic hillfort lie on a prominent spur of land.

Łapczyca is served by a bus route connecting Kraków and Bochnia via local stops, including Moszczenica and Łapczyca.

Łapczyca developed along the historic trade route between Hungary and Kraków, known as the Amber Road and later as Via Regia Antiqua. The section along the local ridges is now called Górny Gościniec.
