Ptaszkowa – Nature, Trails and Cross-Country Skiing

Ptaszkowa lies in a broad valley at an elevation of about 500 metres. To the north, the village is surrounded by Rosochatka (753 m) and Koziniec (560 m); to the south rises the Podstawne–Jaworze massif, with Podstawne (818 m) and Jaworze (882 m). A railway line runs through the village, and train services are still possible. Local activities include a nature trail, hiking trails, a rope park and cross-country ski trails.

The Ptaszkowa nature trail combines opportunities to observe nature with views of the landscape. From one viewpoint, you can see Rosochatka and Koziniec, as well as the village centre. The two hills lie north of the village; their elevations of 753 and 560 metres give a sense of the surrounding landscape.

The trail also passes a small ecological reserve that protects valuable plant habitats. It includes habitats for numerous insects and amphibians, including fire salamanders, common frogs and common toads. Visitors interested in plants and animals will find additional nature-related points of interest alongside the landscape views.

The nature trail partly coincides with a separately marked Papal Trail. This means the two routes share at least part of their course; the Papal Trail is marked separately. There are also two described hiking routes with different destinations: a blue trail leads from Ptaszkowa to Krynica, while a green trail leads from the summit to Grybów. When planning, the main consideration is whether you are looking for a route between towns or would prefer the nature trail with its viewpoints and habitats.

The Centrum Sportów Zimowych in Ptaszkowa has two cross-country ski trails: one is 1,000 metres long and the other is 1,600 metres long. Both are paved, lit, artificially snowed and groomed. They differ in length; the other features listed describe the trails themselves.

A mountain biking trail runs alongside the observation tower. The rope park has four separate courses at different heights and with varying levels of difficulty. Its children’s course is intended mainly for children, but adults can also use it; it has 20 obstacles. If you are travelling with people of different ages, you can take this specific option into account when choosing activities.

The wooden church in Ptaszkowa was built in 1555 in the Gothic style using log construction. Inside, at the right side altar, is a Gothic Madonna and Child sculpture dating from around 1420. The church and the sculpture have different historical dates: the church dates from 1555, while the figure is dated to around 1420. Visitors interested in architecture and religious art can explore both the wooden structure and a specific piece of its furnishings.
