What does the reservoir offer in summer?

If you want to include swimming and sunbathing in your trip, you’ll find sandy beaches at the Krasnobród reservoir in summer. The beaches are surrounded by pine forests. The combination of water and forest defines this part of the holiday resort; it differs from the trails and historic sights that appeal to other interests. Recreational fishing is also one of the things to do in Krasnobród: it is possible at Zalew wypoczynkowy, at Olender and at the Podkaplica pond.

Which trails pass through Krasnobród?

The red-marked Szlak partyzancki and the green-marked Szlak im. Władysławy Podobińskiej run through the town. For a cycling trip, there is the blue-marked Roztoczański Szlak Rowerowy. It passes through Krasnobród on the Zwierzyniec–Krasnobród–Majdan Sopocki route. The details about the markings and routes help you choose a tour based on your preferred way of getting around: two of the routes mentioned are hiking trails, and the third is a cycling route.

What can you discover at Kamieniołom?

The “Kamieniołom” geological documentation site is located in a disused quarry. Its exposed face is about 30 metres high and 165 metres long. It contains impressions of plants and animals that lived many millions of years ago. The site thus offers a glimpse into the history of the Earth, distinct from the natural experiences by the water.

A viewing tower, built in 2002, also stands on the Kamieniołom quarry. From there, you can enjoy a panorama of Krasnobród. Geological traces and the view are two different aspects of this site: visitors interested in the exposed face can look for the impressions, while the tower offers a view of the town.

Which cultural sites define Krasnobród?

The Baroque Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (pw. Nawiedzenia Najświętszej Marii Panny) and its adjoining monastery were built between 1690 and 1699. On the upper floor of the monastery at the Marian Sanctuary is the “Wystawa Maryjna,” an exhibition of Marian shrines from across Poland. Both the monastery complex’s architecture and the exhibition are cultural attractions to discover in Krasnobród.

About 500 metres from the monastery is the 18th-century Chapel on the Water (Kaplica na Wodzie), also known as “Kaplica Objawień.” According to tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared to Jakub Ruszczyk at this site in 1640. The chapel thus brings together a named religious site and local tradition, whose reported event is dated to 1640.

Next to the monastery stands a historic larch-wood granary, roofed with wooden shingles and dating from 1795. It houses a collection of harvest wreaths. The collection is added to every year with wreaths brought to Krasnobród for the diocesan harvest festival held in September. The granary and its collection give the harvest festival a cultural landmark of its own.

What is there to do in winter?

Winter activities in Krasnobród include torch-lit sled rides. The routes follow forest trails and pass through ravines. This activity is quite different from summer beach days and the marked hiking and cycling routes. If you’re looking for a seasonal change when choosing a destination, you can consider this winter activity alongside the options by the reservoir.

For a wider choice of places, you can also include Borki as well as Sitaniec, Nielisz, Łabunie, Kawęczynek, Chomęciska Duże, Deszkowice-Kolonia and Jacnia in your travel plans.
