What makes Wałcz on Lake Raduń special?
Lake Raduń is not only the largest body of water within the town limits, but also a landmark for routes and activities. Wałecka Aleja Gwiazd runs along the lakeshore in eastern Wałcz and starts near the Municipal Sports and Recreation Centre. Metal plaques set into the pavement are each dedicated to another athlete.
The Kłosowski Bridge, also known as the suspension bridge, connects the two shores of the lake. The bridge, which is exclusively for pedestrians, crosses a narrow section to the forest on the opposite shore and provides a shorter route there. Kayaks, boats and pedal boats are available to rent at the Municipal Sports and Recreation Centre; check whether rentals are available before your visit. At the level of COS OPO, there are rowing and canoe racing courses with supporting facilities, where competitions are held.
Which routes suit your plans?
The routes described vary both in length and in the places they connect. The green-marked Wałcz–Czapla–Wiesiółka route is 12 km long. The black route to Kłębowiec covers 7 km and passes through Pluskota and Rudnica. Another 6 km walking route connects Wałcz, Pluskota and Kołatnik.
For a longer hike, a 13.7 km route starts at Wałcz PKS bus station. It passes allotments, a bridge over the Dobrzyca River and Lake Łubianka, and continues to the ZHP base and Ostrowiec PKS bus station. Another hiking trail is 4 km long and connects Ostrowiec with the Leśniczówka Wałcz forester’s lodge. You can compare the stated distances and stages to see which route best suits your plans.
A longer cycling route is also described: the Grupa Warowna Cegielnia Route is 40 km long and marked with name signs. It passes through Kołatnik, Pluskota, Nakielno, Strączno, Chwiram and Wałcz before returning to Kołatnik. The options range from individual trails around Wałcz to a route connecting several places.
What cultural attractions and special destinations are there?
The Wałecka Land Museum is in the centre of Wałcz, at the intersection of Pocztowa and Orla Streets, at the base of the Orla Peninsula on Lake Zamkowe. For a different focus, the Wałcz Historic Sites Trail runs along the shore of Lake Raduń and then leads to Aleja Gwiazd; the route ends with a visit to the Grupa Warowna Cegielnia Open-Air Museum. The Grupa Warowna Cegielnia Route also leads to this open-air museum in Wałcz, where a sightseeing break is planned.
The Pomeranian Wall fortification line runs through Wałcz along the shore of Lake Raduń. This means you can encounter the history of the fortifications in the setting of the lakeshore. COS OPO Bukowina is on the exit road from Wałcz towards Gorzów Wielkopolski, in a beech-covered woodland area—a different landscape from the lakeside trails.
What can families and nature lovers include in their plans?
At the “Metalowe Inspiracje” Local Science Centre, visitors can use a flight simulator and driving simulators for cars, forklifts and excavators. There is also an educational play area for younger visitors. Hands-on classes are planned on topics in physics and chemistry, IT, renewable energy and LEGO construction; a simulator laboratory featuring elements of robotics, mechanics and technology is also part of the planned offering.
If you would like to explore river landscapes instead of a lake, canoeing routes on the Dobrzyca, Piława and Rurzyca rivers are available in the area around Wałcz. They are in the vicinity of the destination, offering a different focus for an excursion than the lakeside paths within Wałcz.
