The fortified church of Roadeș was surrounded by a defensive wall with a zwinger and four defensive towers, three of which have survived to this day. The ensemble of the fortified evangelical church of Meșendorf is an early Gothic hall church with a tower on the west façade, built in the 14th century and fortified at the end of the 15th century. Its fortifications feature projecting square towers and a covered defensive walkway; in the 16th century, a zwinger with loopholes was added. The fortified church of Roadeș was probably built in the 14th century as a hall church with a polygonal choir and bell tower, and fortified in the 15th century.

The Haferland Week program includes Criț, Roadeș, Meșendorf, Buneşti, and Viscri. The Haferland Week takes place every year in August.

Location and Routes

Comuna Buneşti lies in southeastern Transylvania on the Târnava Plateau at an elevation of 496 meters. The commune lies at the foot of the watershed between the Olt river basin in the southwest and the Great Târnava basin in the southeast. European route E60 crosses Comuna Buneşti and connects Braşov with Târgu Mureş.

Comuna Buneşti encompasses 9,580.33 hectares of the Podişul Hârtibaciului Natura 2000 site. A further 13,870 hectares of the Sighişoara–Târnava Mare Natura 2000 site are located within the territory of Comuna Buneşti.

Getting Around

Horseback rides are offered in Viscri and the surrounding villages. The cycling network in the Târnava Mare area connects Viscri, Buneşti, Criț and Meșendorf and has been expanded to more than 100 kilometers.

Visitors to Viscri are asked to leave their cars in the village parking lot and continue on foot. The blacksmith in Viscri makes traditional tools, horseshoes, grilles, decorative items, and various household utensils needed for a traditional household.
