Mihăilești: Argeș, Reservoir and Churches

On the southern shore of Mihăilești Lake, the Biserica “Sfinții Voievozi” stands in the northeast of Mihăilești. The church dates from 1714. Also located on the lake shore is Conacul lui Călinescu, a building from the early 20th century. The church and manor house therefore date from different periods while also being situated on the same lakeshore. The reservoir is thus present not only as a body of water but also as a spatial reference point for these two historic structures.

In the Drăgănescu district of the city of Mihăilești stands the Biserica “Sf. Ierarh Nicolae”, built in 1870. The Biserica “Sfânta Treime” is located in Popești and dates from between 1688 and 1689. The church preserves original interior wall paintings attributed to Pârvu Mutu. Its furnishings also include a votive painting depicting Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu.

The archaeological site of Argedava is also located in Popești. It extends across the northern half of the settlement, north of DJ142A (Strada Dacia), and lies on the right bank of the Argeș. Popești therefore brings together a church with preserved interior wall paintings and a votive painting, as well as an archaeological site. Both are located on the Argeș, but belong to different historical and cultural areas.

The wider regional surroundings of Mihăilești include several historic structures with different names and states of preservation. Cotroceni Palace and Palace of the Parliament are located there as palaces. Văcărești Monastery is classified as a ruin, while Palatul de Justiție is listed as a monument. For those interested in culture, this creates a shared wider regional setting containing palace buildings, a monastery ruin and a monument, without them belonging to the same building type.

The wider regional surroundings also include Drumul Taberei Park, Carol Park, Cișmigiu Park and Bazilescu Park. All four are listed as parks. The park names identify different facilities, while their shared classification as parks creates a clear thematic connection.
