Negrești-Oaș: Culture, Hiking Trails and Luna Șes

Negrești-Oaș combines museum insights, regional cultural events and paths into the surrounding landscape. The city offers very different points of interest: Valea Turului leads into a valley with distinctive rock formations, while museums and recurring events showcase the culture of the Oaș region.

Nature and Hiking

A marked hiking trail from Negrești-Oaș to Vârful Pietroasa begins at an information board next to the Petrom petrol station at the beginning of Luna Street. The trail has a moderate level of difficulty; mountain hiking equipment is required to walk it. Another hike through Valea Turului starts in the centre of Negrești-Oaș via Vrăticel Street.

The Valea Turului valley stretches for 15 kilometres from Negrești-Oaș to its source. Its landscape includes andesitic walls, column formations and cascades. Culture

This open-air museum includes a wooden church from Lechința dating from the first half of the 17th century. The Muzeul Țării Oașului also hosts the Art Bunavestire exhibition of contemporary visual art every year on 25 March.

The events calendar also extends into festive traditions: Every year on the third day of Christmas, Negrești-Oaș hosts the “Festivalul de datini şi obiceiuri de iarnă” festival. Zestrea Oașului – Zilele Orașului Negrești-Oaș lasts three days each year and usually takes place on the first weekend after 15 August. The event begins with a parade from the town hall to a stage set up in the city centre.

The cultural offerings are therefore spread across different seasons and types of events. Winter and Getting There

The Luna Șes ski area can be reached from the entrance to Negrești-Oaș via a signposted paved road. This leads to the car park at the chairlift’s lower station.
