Trestenburg – Thermal Water and Culture in Tășnad
A significant thermomineral water source was discovered in the area of Tășnad. In 1978, a 1,354-meter-deep extraction well was drilled for this purpose. The thermal bath in the Tășnad resort area has been in operation since 1978. At the surface, the thermal water has a temperature of 70 °C and a total mineralization of 9.48 g/l.
Culture and History
The Cserey-Fischer Castle, built in 1771, houses the Tășnad City Museum. Casa Muzeu Tășnad is a farmhouse acquired from Sânmiclăuș in Satu Mare County and dates from October 10, 1903.
Casa Muzeu Tășnad contains a permanent exhibition on local history and archaeology. Casa Muzeu Tășnad can be visited by arranging an appointment by telephone. The farmhouse, exhibition, and appointment requirement distinguish this museum site from the city museum housed in the castle.
The Reformed Church in Tășnad was built in 1476 and is listed among the historic monuments. The Roman Catholic Church was rebuilt in 1903–1905 after the older church building was demolished; the older structure had been built in 1783–1784.
The 42-meter-high tower of the Roman Catholic Church in Tășnad received a clock in 1905. Tășnad Orthodox Cathedral has a cruciform design in the Neo-Byzantine style.
The churches thus represent different construction periods and design features: the Reformed Church dates back to 1476, the Roman Catholic Church comprises an older building and a newly constructed one, while the Orthodox Cathedral has a cruciform design in the Neo-Byzantine style.
The building of Casa de Cultură Tășnad has been used as a cultural center since 1948. Casa de Cultură Tășnad hosts performances, conferences, book presentations, and music clubs.
