Discover Mângureni: Museums, Churches and Nature

Mângureni can be explored through specific places dedicated to cultural and nature education. These include an open-air museum, a museum complex, wooden churches and facilities where movement, sensory perception and the relationship with nature play a role. Different themes exist side by side: reconstructed rural life, family history, religious architecture and nature-based activities. The range extends from exhibitions and historic buildings to activities involving movement or multiple senses.

Culture

The Muzeul Satului Vâlcean is an open-air village museum that reconstructs a traditional rural settlement across 8 hectares. The size of the grounds is just as relevant to its character as the combination of a museum and a recreated settlement.

The Memorialul Nicolae Bălcescu is a museum complex with two exhibitions in 11 rooms: one exhibition is dedicated to the family, while the other is dedicated to Nicolae Bălcescu. Visitors can also take part in cultural education workshops there.

The Memorialul Nicolae Bălcescu is located in Valea Bălcească – Comuna Nicolae Bălcescu, Județul Vâlcea, and is open daily: from May to September from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and from October to April from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Biserica din Gâltofani, a small oak-wood church, is also known as “Biserica de pe moșia Bălceștilor”. It originally served as the chapel of a boyar estate and had only one apse and a nave.

The wooden church “Adormirea Maicii Domnului” in Mângureni is dated to 1785. A wooden church from Mângureni was relocated to and preserved at the Muzeul Satului Vâlcean in Bujoreni.

The Muzeul Satului Vâlcean, the Memorialul Nicolae Bălcescu and Vatra Park offer different focuses. This makes it possible to structure the day around cultural history, sacred wooden architecture and nature-based activities, without reducing the offerings to the same type of visit.

The Aleea Terapeutică is a woodland facility where walking barefoot on natural surfaces can be experienced. It was the first educational project of Asociația Vatra cu idei and became its hallmark.

Vatra Park includes an obstacle course with more than five elements designed to develop motor skills. Through activities that develop motor and sensory skills, the park promotes a connection with nature.

Vatra Park has an insect hotel intended to raise awareness that people must give something back to nature.

The forest-bathing sessions involved connecting with the forest through all the senses. They were initiated as part of the “PĂDUREA CARE VINDECĂ” project.
