Novouralsk at a glance

  • The red route, “Along the Bunarka,” takes 30 to 40 minutes; the blue route, “Historic Novouralsk,” is listed as taking 40 to 50 minutes.
  • The local history museum preserves and displays more than 20,000 objects in its main collection and auxiliary research collection.
  • The museum opened on May 7, 1975, and reopened after renovation in 1995.
  • In February 2003, Central Park was granted the status of “Central Culture and Recreation Park of Novouralsk.”

How do the historic routes differ?

The red route, “Along the Bunarka,” follows landmarks along the Bunarka, Novouralsk’s main waterway. Stops include the Eternal Flame memorial, a monument to internationalist soldiers, and a memorial plaque overlooking the river. The route also includes the Zhuravli monument to victims of political repression and the Sozdateliam goroda stele. It thus connects the river with a range of memorial sites.

The blue route, “Historic Novouralsk,” passes through the historic district, built in the first half and middle of the 20th century. The walk takes 40 to 50 minutes and is designed as a self-guided option. Stops include an obelisk to the heroes of the Civil War, the DMK Theater, the local history museum, the children’s library, and a monument to V. I. Lenin. Check the current route signs on site.

The yellow route, “A More Recent Era,” focuses on Novouralsk’s more recent history and on people who contributed to the city’s development. A car or bicycle is recommended for this route. The listed stops include a memorial plaque on Tegentseva Street, the Church of Saint Seraphim of Sarov, Fomenko Boulevard, and a monument to I. A. Savchuk. The three routes therefore highlight different themes: the river and memorial sites, the historic district, or the city’s more recent development.

What do the museum and monuments tell us?

The Novouralsk Local History Museum opened on May 7, 1975, to mark the 30th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War. After renovation, it reopened in 1995 with four permanent exhibition halls: “The Nature of Our Region,” “Our Region in the Past,” “For Life on Earth,” and “The History of the City.” The more than 20,000 objects preserved and displayed are connected with the history of the city and its surrounding region. The exhibitions currently on display may vary.

The monuments also tell different stories. The Zhuravli monument, 4.5 meters high overall, consists of three cranes symbolizing the song “Zhuravli,” with lyrics by Rasul Gamzatov. The Eternal Flame memorial, with its plaques, commemorates defenders of the homeland who lived in the settlement during the Second World War, near the Light Alloy Plant No. 484 built there, and never returned from the battlefields. The Sozdateliam goroda composition depicts a scientist, a worker, and a surveyor within a circle. The three figures represent the city’s first builders.

What does Central Park offer visitors?
