Petushinsky District at a glance

Places with cultural attractions and outings described here include Petushki, Kostino, Pokrov, Yeliseykovo and Glubokovo. The themes range from art, exhibitions and crafts to historic architecture and an eco-park with a bird zoo and activities at a farm. Petushinsky District also includes the settlements of Lipna and Yuchmer.

What cultural activities are available in Petushki?

The art gallery offers tours and workshops in creative techniques. Activities include wood carving, dry felting, folk dolls, botanical sculptures made from foamiran, and weaving lessons. Tours take place during the day; tourist groups are welcomed by appointment. Alongside viewing the exhibits, visitors can learn practical skills involving different materials and design techniques.

The gallery also houses the museum exhibition “A Journey with Yerofeyev. Moscow–Petushki,” about the life and work of the writer Venedikt Vasilyevich Yerofeyev. The Rooster Museum has a different focus: it features paintings, graphics, themed folk crafts, and rooster figures in a variety of shapes, materials and sizes. The museum’s Fairy-Tale Town offers group and individual tours, as well as interactive programs for different age groups on themes from the folk calendar.

What do the estate and monastery tell us about history?

Parts of the abandoned, three-story Art Nouveau main house of the Sabashnikov publishing family’s estate in Kostino have survived. The house dates from the late 19th to early 20th century. The estate also includes an overgrown park from the second half of the 18th century, with formal and landscaped areas and a pond. Together, the house and park reflect different architectural and garden designs from two historical periods.

Pokrov is home to the monastery’s Vvedensky Cathedral, a two-story red-brick church with five domes. It was built between 1891 and 1894.

What other places and activities are there to explore?

The Isaac Levitan Museum Complex in Yeliseykovo displays copies and reproductions of works that Levitan painted in Gorodok between May 12 and December 27, 1892. In Glubokovo, the “Chisty Bereg” eco-park, run by the Bekirov farm, features a bird zoo, recreation and fishing by a body of water, and accommodation for tourists at the farm, where they can learn about its operations. Check the current visiting arrangements in advance for this stop.

Pokrovsky Pryanik is a gingerbread factory with suspended tunnels for excursion participants. Bogdarnya offers excursions and workshops. Before planning these activities, check dates, visiting arrangements and availability so you can plan your visits accordingly.
