Logatec was mentioned as early as Roman times and was a strategically important stopping place on the road between Aquileia and Emona, ancient Ljubljana.

History and Culture

The Vojni muzej Logatec preserves more than 2,800 awards from around the world. The Vojni muzej Logatec displays military-historical objects ranging from stone axes, objects from the Copper and Bronze Ages and the Roman era, through the Middle Ages and the two world wars, to the 1991 Slovenian War of Independence and the development of the new Slovenian army.

Logatec Castle, together with several notable examples of the traditional rural architecture of the Notranjska region, shapes the character of the town. In Gorenja vas, the Church of St John the Evangelist has a medieval ground plan and was first mentioned in 1526. The church preserves remnants of a fresco depicting the procession of the Three Kings, created before the mid-15th century.

Napoleon's Avenue is designated as a historically designed landscape and consists of 290 linden trees lining a 1,900-metre-long road.

Trails and Experiences

There are several hiking trails in the municipality of Logatec, including the Logaška planinska pot circular route. The Rimska pot is a moderately difficult cycling route included in Logatec's tourism offering. Another experience is offered by the wind-tunnel flight experience at Aerodium Logatec: it includes an instructor briefing and special equipment consisting of a flight suit, goggles, a helmet, earplugs and, in winter, gloves.
