Lesično: Hotel, Water Educational Trail and Gothic Church

A 1,800 m-long water educational trail connects Lesično and Pilštanj. It leads from the Church of St. Ulrich in Lesično along the Bistrica to Pilštanj and back to the primary school in Lesično via the ruins of Drenski grad. Along this route, the water educational trail connects wells and water springs and provides insights into the area’s natural and cultural heritage. The trail is suitable for a peaceful walk for all generations.

Culture and History

The densely clustered settlement center of Lesično lies at the confluence of the Zagorski potok and the Bistrica. One of its defining buildings is the Church of St. Ulrich, a Gothic church dating from 1394. It was rebuilt in the 18th century; its interior was vaulted and furnished in 1750. The church also contains a statue of St. Ulrich from the 15th century, dated to the years 1430–1440. Experts consider it one of the finest Gothic sculptures in Kozjansko.

Near the church, on a village meadow in the center of Lesično, stands the monument to the “Contemplating Christ.” The seated figure of Christ stands on a Tuscan column with a base into which the year 1713 is carved. The history of craftsmanship is also present in the village: During the 1573 peasant uprising, Lesično had a renowned forge, the Kovačija of the castle weaponsmith Pavla Šterc. The blacksmithing tradition continued in Lesično into the present day. An NOB monument at a road intersection commemorates the victims of the occupation.

In nearby Pilštanj, the old school houses a museum classroom and a gallery space with an art exhibition. When visiting the sights of the medieval market town of Pilštanj, it is also possible to taste drnulovec by prior arrangement.

Water and the Townscape

The Bistrica and its tributaries are a hydrological and ecosystem natural asset of national importance. Another detail of the townscape is the village well in Lesično. It has a masonry base and a wooden structure with a four-sided hipped roof, typical of the village wells in this area.
