Nurota: Hotels and Accommodations

The Chashma spring in Nurota is a pilgrimage site. Its water temperature remains constant at around 20°C; the fish in the spring must not be fed, caught, or eaten. The desire to book a hotel in Nurota is unrelated to this.

History

Archaeological findings indicate that people were already living in Nurota in the 1st millennium BC. Nur Kale is a historical and archaeological landmark in Nurota District; excavations indicate that the complex existed in the 5th to 6th centuries. Its two gates served the routes to the oases of Bukhara and Samarkand.

The ancient karizlar in Nurota District are a hydraulic system for bringing groundwater to the surface. The Nurota karizlar comprise 280 wells.

Culture

Nurota has been a cultural center of handicrafts and various forms of applied folk art since ancient times. In Nurota, artisan families pass down the secrets of national embroidery from generation to generation through the Ustoz-Shogird teaching tradition. Nurota was one of six cities in Uzbekistan where the most important schools of embroidery developed from the late 18th to the early 19th century. Nurota embroidery has been known for centuries for its clear patterns and beautiful floral ornaments.

The khanqah of the Panjvakta Mosque was rebuilt in 1582 by order of the Khan of Bukhara, Abdullaxon II. The Panjvakta Mosque differs from other mosques in Uzbekistan in that it has a khanqah. Attached iwans, built in the mid-19th century, are located on both sides of the Panjvakta Mosque.

The marble decorations of the Chilustun Mosque are attributed to the stonemason Abdurayim Turdiev from Gozgon. The woodcarvings of the Chilustun Mosque are considered the work of Usto Shams. The site of a sundial once used in the Chilustun Mosque has been preserved.

A pilgrimage tourism ring has been developed in Nurota District, connecting the Chashma pilgrimage site with the Imam Bukhari Complex and the shrines of Yetti Pir.

Nature

The Nuratau Mountains attract many tourists because of their rich history, unusual monuments, mild climate, and healing springs.
