Tourism in Russia

Russia is the largest country on Earth, and as such it is highly significant internationally in many ways. The world is interested not only in the political developments taking place in the country, but also in the major advances it has made. In recent years, Russia has become increasingly similar to Western countries, making it a more attractive destination for tourism as well.

There have also been improvements in transport connections, which have greatly benefited the transport sector. The European and Asian parts of Russia differ considerably in many respects. Transport and travel options are very important for tourism in Russia. Holidaymakers need to be able to reach their destination easily.

The greatest international interest is focused on the capital, Moscow, which is home to around 10 million people. Russia’s landscape is highly varied, with many rivers and lakes and a range of climate zones.

Most of the country is characterized by hot summers and cold winters, with Siberia being the coldest region. Russia’s landscape is crossed by numerous mountain ranges, the best known of which are the Urals, the Caucasus, the Altai and the Baikal Mountains. Alongside Moscow, some of the country’s most important and largest cities are Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Omsk and Nizhny Novgorod.
