Poland would not legalize prostitution for Euro 2012

(News from Poland)

From June 8 to July 1, 2012 in Ukraine and Poland will be held the European Football Championship (its official name is UEFA EURO 2012TM Poland - Ukraine). During this period due the expected large influx of fans and tourists in addition to organizational problems arise other difficulties. As you know the demand for specific services during such major sporting events Euro 2012 increases. In particular, the demand for prostitutes increases significantly. Some countries during such events partially or completely legalized prostitution (Netherlands, Austria). In Berlin, for example, during the same tournament, special brothels with small cubicles were built near the stadium, where everyone could hire a prostitute.

Poland and Ukraine have long been popular among the fans of sex tourism from Western Europe, and during the Euro 2012 this problem becomes more urgent. Stephen Orischuk, a football fan from England, who visited Ukraine during the summer in his video on YouTube spoke about the unusually large number of massage salons advertised in the tourist brochures, newspapers and street big boards. A similar situation is observed in Poland. However, Polish officials said that no to the legalization of prostitution, even partial. Moreover the officials will make every effort to improve the existing situation. The head of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship police of Poland Joseph Gdański said: "No one could change the fact that prostitution is illegal in Poland. The Poles and Ukrainians are very religious, and the idea of prostitution legalizing would be actively protested by the church". He also told the reporters about the joint Polish-Ukrainian plans to combat prostitution during the Euro 2012. Next February the first meeting of ministers of the law of both countries will be held to discuss this issue.
