Holidays in Bulgaria on the Black Sea: its popularity has led to mass house building on the coast in recent years. However, many hotels in Bulgaria, as well as villas, apartments and even piers were built on the Black Sea coast with violation of building codes, without obtaining official permission from the authorities. And in order to get rid of illegal buildings the Bulgarian authorities have launched a campaign to destroy buildings and structures throughout the Black Sea coast. The campaign was called "Operation Bulldozer".

As reported by Bulgarian media, there have already been ruined some illegal buildings. So, on 7 December 2010 at Rusalka resort near Kavarna was demolished illegally built pier for yachts. As reported by the Bulgarian National Television, the question about the demolition of the pier was raised in 2008, but the final decision to demolish was taken only a few days ago.

A day earlier, on December 6, 2010, was destructed one of the hotels in Bulgaria, located near the resort of Varna. It was Ramona hotel.

According to the Bulgarian media, the demolishing of tourist facilities violates the environmental regulations. Thus, debris and remnants of buildings were thrown directly into the sea.

It is worth noting that the operation on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast caused different opinions. Thus, one of the top resorts in Bulgaria - Nesebr - became a place of struggle between the owners of illegal structures and authorities. Then the owners in response to the refusal of the authorities to reconsider the demolition of buildings barricaded the bridge and did not permit the workers and the police to demolish some buildings.

Bulgaria is one of the main summer holiday destinations for tourists from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. In total 300,000 Russians visited Bulgaria this year. It is expected that in 2011, the number of Russians who come to rest in Bulgaria will increase to 500,000 people.
