Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, was named the most budget tourist city in Europe. These data were presented in the BackPacker Index rating, published on the portal PriceOfTravel, which is one of the most popular US resources for backpackers.
40 major European cities took part in the rating. In the rating were taken into account such parameters as the cost of transportation, food, beverages, entertainment and accommodation.
Sofia today is truly one of the cheapest tourist cities in Europe. The price for a basic set of tourist services here is 15-20% lower than in other European capitals.
For the ultra budget travelers PriceOfTravel sounded the price of 30 levs for daily stay in Sofia. This money, according to the rating authors, will be enough for accommodation, meals and entertainment. 14 levs tourists will have to pay for one night in a hostel, 10 levs - for food (excluding breakfast), 2 left on the transport and 4 in reserve.
The second place of the rating took the Polish city of Krakow, which cheaper than the capital of another former Soviet bloc state - Bucharest.
The most expensive city in Europe from all, which took part in the rating, was Zurich. One of the key business centers of the world would cost a traveler 116 Swiss francs per day.
It should be noted that Sofia is not the only Bulgarian town, which was recognized as the most budget tourist destination. Not long ago British company Post Office Travel Money and Crystal Ski published the rating of the most low-cost ski resorts in Europe. The first place of the rating was occupied by the main center of winter holidays in Bulgaria - Bansko. According to the authors, the average budget for a weekly stay in Bansko with ski pass and meals for the 2011-2012 season will be about 290 Euros per person.
