Culture

The Ethnographic Museum of Elbasan showcases around 80 types of traditional crafts. It is housed in an 18th-century building designated as a Category I cultural monument.

The Via Egnatia ran through Elbasan and historically connected Dyrrachium with Byzantium. The remains of the Topçias Bridge preserve a Roman bridge associated with the Egnatian route. The bridge attracts visitors interested in Roman engineering and early architecture.

Nature

The forests of Rrajca are part of Shebenik–Jabllanicë National Park and form part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rrajca is known for its untouched beech forests and as a habitat of the Balkan lynx.

Funar is known for dense pine and oak forests as well as four natural lakes or water reservoirs. The area offers nature walks, mountain hikes, and fishing spots for amateurs.

Gjinar lies approximately 22–24 km southeast of Elbasan and can be reached via the Elbasan–Gjinar Highway. The Te Agai agritourism establishment in Gjinar is surrounded by mountains and offers opportunities for hiking. For traditional dishes, Te Agai uses organic ingredients and fresh local products.

Qukës is suitable as a starting point for hiking and landscape photography in the mountains of Shebenik, Sopot, and Rrajca. The former route of the ancient Via Egnatia through Prrenjas places the area on a historic east–west transit corridor.

Ballakume is a traditional dessert from Elbasan associated with the celebration of Summer Day on March 14. Tavë kosi represents hospitality and the tradition of home cooking in Elbasan and central Albania. Pestil casserole is a traditional dish from Elbasan served during the cold season. Walnut porridge is a traditional dish of the Elbasan region prepared for special occasions and holidays.
