Laza: Hotels and Accommodations

The Xınalıq–Laza (Qabala) hiking route is 42 kilometers long and includes 1,945 meters of ascent and 2,800 meters of descent.

Nature

The Mucuq Waterfall is 96 meters high and is located near Laza in the Qabala district at an elevation of approximately 1,700 meters. It is fed by snowmelt and rainwater from the Qotur Massif.

The waterfall is located in the Qabala section of Shahdag National Park near Laza. Laza itself lies at approximately 1,700 meters above sea level.

Access to Mucuq Waterfall follows the left branch of the Demiraparan River. It may also include Zayli Waterfall and a cave used by wildlife.

Hiking

The Xınalıq–Laza route crosses high mountain ranges, passes through deep valleys and across broad alpine meadows before reaching an elevation of 3,236 meters.

It is physically demanding and includes steep climbs, several river crossings and difficult terrain in the Gudyalchay Valley.

Along the way, it follows ancient migration routes historically used by shepherds and traders between the high pastures of the Caucasus and the lowland areas.

Culture

The Salavat Pass remains a seasonal stopping point for local shepherds.

Some residents of Laza spend the summers on high-altitude pastures in the mountain ranges of the Greater Caucasus; these reach approximately 3,000 meters.

Sheep farming is part of the local livelihood. Traditionally, residents move to winter grazing areas.

Travel to Laza is more difficult in winter.
