Culture and History

The Azizija Mosque with harem in Brezovo Polje is a protected cultural heritage complex in Brčko District. In Brčko are the historic Kočić House, the Savska or Atik Mosque, a protected cultural heritage complex, and the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, also a protected cultural heritage complex.

The Gradaščević Tower is a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In Bijela, it is a residential and defensive building from the Ottoman period on the slopes of Mount Majevica. The Muzej Neolit in Sandići preserves an extensive archaeological-ethnographic collection. The Brčko City Museum has a permanent exhibition entitled “The Archaeological-Ethnographic Past of Brčko and Its Surroundings”.

The Islahijet building complex dates from the Austro-Hungarian period. Islahijet is located in the Kolobara settlement in Brčko, near the confluence of the Brka and Sava rivers.

Sava River and Events

Brčko District is connected to the Danube via the Sava River. Brčko’s promenade hosts concerts, cultural and entertainment events, fairs, and exhibitions.

Ficibajer is a recreational area on the Sava River in Kolobara with a landscaped riverbank. Kayaking and canoeing are available there; in the summer months, the Sava Regatta takes place there. The “Zaveslaj Brčko” Canoe and Kayak Club also caters to recreational athletes and tourists who would like to kayak or canoe on the Sava River.

Countryside and Wine

The six-hectare Milijada agricultural estate in Popovo Polje offers fishponds, domestic animals, walking paths, a swimming pool, and dining options. It serves “drunken carp” and other dishes made with regional ingredients.

Pajić Winery welcomes visitors with wine and food in a natural setting. In 2013, Pajić Winery in Bukvik planted vineyards covering an initial 1.5 hectares with Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, and Chardonnay.

Surroundings and Trails

The surrounding area includes Mount Veliki Oglavak, the Stara Džamija Mosque (Mosque) Brka, Momina Pećina Cave, Mount Bijeli Kamen Brdo, Šumanovci Church, and Mount Straža. The wider regional area includes Zvezdan Grad Fortress and Tolica Church.

At the Platani Mountaineering Club, there are circular hiking trails near the mountain lodge measuring 4.5 km and 14 km in length.
