Nature and landscapes

The mountains Vučja Kosa, Pleća and Rastova Kosa are located nearby. Humska Gradina mountain is in the surrounding area.

Vjetrenica Cave is 7,324 meters long and part of the Trebišnjica river system. More than 230 taxa have been recorded in the Vjetrenica cave system.

Hutovo Blato is considered an internationally important bird habitat and is a Ramsar wetland. Hutovo Blato Nature Park covers 8,000 hectares.

Blidinje Nature Park encompasses the Čvrsnica and Vrana mountain ranges and has more than 200 kilometers of hiking trails.

Culture and history

Mostar developed as an Ottoman border town in the 15th and 16th centuries and later underwent development under Austro-Hungarian rule. The area of the reconstructed Old Bridge and the Old Town of Mostar was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005 and symbolizes reconciliation and the coexistence of different cultural, ethnic and religious communities.

The Ivo Andric Museum is located in the wider regional area. The Radimlja necropolis contains 63 decorated stećci.

The Pliva Waterfall is located in the center of Jajce. The Catacombs of Jajce are an underground church carved into the rock that was created at the end of the 14th or beginning of the 15th century, commissioned by Duke Hrvoje Vukčić Hrvatinić as the final resting place of the ducal Hrvatinić family. The Fortress of Jajce was a fortification of the former royal capital and the last territorial possession of the Kingdom of Bosnia.

The Museum of the Second AVNOJ Session was founded in 1953 as the central Yugoslav memorial museum institution.

Konjic woodcarving is a traditional craft with a long history in the municipality of Konjic; the woodcarvings include furniture, elaborately designed interiors and small decorative objects with characteristic hand-carved motifs.

Water and craftsmanship

Great Pliva Lake is suitable for kayaking and canoeing. Mlinčići consists of 20 watermills on a tufa barrier between Great Pliva Lake and Small Pliva Lake; they reflect local carpentry and traditional construction methods.

Blagaj's visitor offerings include traditional Herzegovinian cuisine.
