Culture

In 2009, the Commission to Preserve National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina declared the historic area „Historijsko područje – memorijalni kompleks Bitka na Neretvi“ in Jablanica a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The „Bitka na Neretvi“ Memorial Complex comprises the museum building, an event area, an assembly square with an eternal flame, the destroyed bridge, and a bunker building.

At the „Bitka za ranjenike na Neretvi“ Museum, visitors can see five additional exhibitions alongside the main exhibition, „Bitka na Neretvi“. The exhibitions are bilingual, in Bosnian and English; most are accompanied by audio guides in Bosnian, English, German, Arabic, and Turkish.

The destroyed bridge is the central element of the „Bitka na Neretvi“ Memorial Complex and the museum's most important exhibit. The original bridge was built in 1888 during the Austro-Hungarian period as part of the narrow-gauge railway known as the Narenta Railway. During the Battle of the Neretva, it was destroyed on March 3, 1943.

Hiking and Cycling

The Via Dinarica BH-W-06 Prenj Mountain route begins in Jablanica, follows the Neretva to the village of Glogošnica, and continues to the Međuprenje mountain pass. The route is classified as difficult (T4). From the center of Jablanica, hikers reach the Prenj trail by crossing the bridge, walking through the tunnel, and turning left after the small bridge.

The cycling routes in Jablanica pass through forests and run along rivers and lakes. Thus, different landscape elements appear alongside one another in the described route, without equating the cycling routes with the Via Dinarica route.

Water and Lakeshores

The Doljanka River is suitable for sport fishing and camping. Easy mountain hikes are possible along its banks. The Šanica River is suitable for sport fishing, camping, swimming, and ecotourism. There are campsites and private beaches on the shore of Lake Jablaničko jezero.

Local Cuisine

The Zdrava voda Jablanica restaurant serves spit-roasted lamb as a traditional local specialty. It is located on the M17 trunk road at the exit from Jablanica in the direction of the Adriatic Sea.
