Karnobat: Hotels and accommodations

The Dimitar Polyanov House Museum is housed in Karnobat’s only surviving urban-style house from the period of the Bulgarian National Revival. It showcases the traditional culture of the Karnobat region, including livelihoods, crafts, festivals, customs, and traditional costumes.

Karnobat’s clock tower was built in 1875 and reflects the prosperity of the city’s craft and merchant community. The Sinanbey Hamam is an Ottoman-Turkish monument from the 15th century and the only building from this century identified in what is now southeastern Bulgaria.

The Markeli Fortress lies 7.5 kilometers west of Karnobat and is described as a significant early Byzantine city as well as a powerful fortification of the First Bulgarian Empire. On July 20, 792, it was the site of Khan Kardam’s decisive victory over the Byzantine Emperor Constantine VI. The fortress includes a multilayered Christian complex with an 11th-century cross-domed church, mosaics, marble sculptures, and frescoes.

Minkov Brothers Winery offers wine tastings and tours featuring wines from its own vineyards in the Karnobat region. The tours include visits to the vineyards and underground tunnels where wine matures in oak barrels. Two museum areas are dedicated to the history of winemaking in the Minkov family and the wine tradition of the Karnobat region.

The production of wine and rakia is described in the Karnobat region as part of the history and livelihood of the local population. Vinprom Karnobat cultivates the Tamyanka, Dimyat, Rubin, Mavrud, Misket, Pamid, Uni Blanc, and Rkatsiteli grape varieties.

The protected locality of Lalikoto in the land of Venets is home to the endemic Urumov tulip. The municipality of Karnobat is also home to eight globally threatened bird species and 63 species of European or national importance.
