History and Culture
A prehistoric settlement dating from the 5th to 4th millennium BC was identified on the Beshkova River in the Stambolovo area. A Thracian chariot from the 2nd century was also discovered at Dvete Chuki in the land of Stambolovo.
Archaeological investigations near Stambolovo uncovered remains of Slavic settlements from the periods of the First and Second Bulgarian Empires. Kovan Kaya is described as a protected Thracian rock sanctuary with several hundred trapezoidal cult niches. A paved road passes within up to 100 metres of Kovan Kaya.
