Gabrovnitsa: Hotels and Accommodation

Gabrovnitsa is located 3 km from the Sofia–Lom main road. The village school is described as one of the oldest schools in the Obshtina Montana and as the largest outside the city.

Culture and History

Local school history dates the founding of the school in Gabrovnitsa to 1866 and is based on recollections. According to reports, the first classroom was located in the village blacksmith’s workshop. A new school building was opened in 1931 after being built through voluntary labor and local resources.

The parish church in Gabrovnitsa is dedicated to Saint Demetrius. On October 26, Gabrovnitsa celebrates the feast of Saint Demetrius, which includes a Divine Liturgy. A village celebration in Gabrovnitsa is also associated with spiritual life, the preservation of intangible values, and local tradition.

A local place-name tradition connects Gabrovnitsa with a former well and a dense hornbeam forest near Suhi dol.

The Asen Yosifov–1926 community center is used for seasonal folk and cultural activities, including Lazarovden customs, the Kumichene ritual, Easter workshops, and themed exhibitions. Kamila is both the name of a custom presented in Gabrovnitsa and at festivals in Pernik and Yambol, and the name of a kukeri group at the Asen Yosifov–1926 community center with 35 participants.

Community

The community center and the local school regularly organize the Know Your People and Language educational competition on May 24. The May 24 program also includes an outdoor concert with songs and dances. The community center’s June 1 program includes a mass recitation, outdoor sports, and drawing on asphalt.

The community center lists a modern dance group with 10 pupils as well as a children’s folk ensemble. On Earth Day, there is a tradition of planting flowers and cleaning the grounds with volunteer helpers from the school. The community center’s summer program has included outdoor sports, drawing activities, screenings of animated films for children, board games, and storytelling outdoors in the park.

A National Reading Marathon held on World Book Day on April 23 has been associated with the community center.
