Stoyanovo: Hotels and Accommodations

Nature

Part of the protected Natura 2000 area BG0000593 “Bilernitsite” lies within the territory of Stoyanovo. It is designated to protect habitats including lowland or mountain rivers with aquatic vegetation and sub-Pannonian steppic grasslands.

History and Culture

A wooden bridge over the Botunya River was repeatedly washed away by floods. Near Sopovo, close to Stoyanovo, Italian engineers built an iron bridge in the 19th century; Prince Ferdinand supported the construction of Stoyanovo’s iron bridge. Local tradition traces the village’s name back to Stoyan Voyvoda, a figure from the 18th century. Nikolay Sokolov was known for his works for children.

The river’s former water power operated 16 fulling mills. The Botunya’s former floods powered 16 water mills.

Things to Do

In the Sopovo area near Stoyanovo, a path leads to a narrow gorge on the Botunya River. Unusual oval rock formations known as abrasion potholes can be seen there. The path begins about 100 meters from the iron bridge, behind the hydroelectric power station.

Location

Stoyanovo is located on the road between Vratsa and Montana, about 10 kilometers from the turnoff to Varshets.

Visitor Information

The Varshets Tourist Information Center provides information about accommodations, dining, sports, balneotherapy, tourism, and entertainment. Bicycles, tents, and fishing rods can also be rented there; mountain guides are additionally available.
