Zemen: Hotels and Accommodation

A 9.1-kilometre section of the Sofia–Kyustendil–Gyueshevo railway runs through Zemen along the Struma Valley. Those wishing to book a hotel in Zemen can then continue their accommodation search.

Routes

A scenic journey accessible exclusively by train leads through the Zemen Gorge from Kyustendil to the Polska Skakavitsa Waterfall. Zemen railway station opened on 9 August 1909.

Nature

The Zemen Gorge is a canyon-like section of the Struma between the Zemen Mountains and the Risha Ridge of the Konya Mountains. It is approximately 22 kilometres long and connects the Radomir Basin in the north with the Kyustendil Basin in the south.

The Polska Skakavitsa Waterfall is approximately 70 metres high and was declared a natural landmark in 1968.

Culture

The Zemen Monastery of Saint John the Theologian is located 1.5 kilometres from Zemen. The monastery complex comprises two buildings, a bell tower and a church. The monastery was founded during the First Bulgarian Empire and declared an archaeological cultural monument in 1971.

The church of Zemen Monastery was built in the 11th and 12th centuries and features a cross-dome design with three apses. Fragments of wall paintings in the church date from approximately the 12th century.

Vladimir Dimitrov–Maystora lived and worked in Divlya from 1928 to 1930.
