Kaylaka Park is located 6 km south of Pleven in the karst valley of the Tuchenitsa River. Kaylaka Park has walking paths, a lake with boats and pedal boats, tennis courts, children’s playgrounds, swimming pools and reservoirs. The park’s cliffs, which are over 20 metres high, are used for climbing.
Culture and History
The Pleven Epopee 1877 Panorama is located in Skobelev Park on the battlefield where the fiercest fighting took place during the Third Attack on Pleven. It combines an exhibition featuring military busts, 19th-century lithographs, works of art, weapons and uniforms. The exhibition is divided into four halls: Introduction, Panorama, Diorama and Conclusion. The Panorama is accessible via the road network and by public transport; parking is available.
The Skobelev Park Museum contains an ossuary with the bones of soldiers from General Skobelev’s division who died during the Third Attack on Pleven. The park was established in 1904 as a memorial to Russian soldiers killed in the fighting on 30 August 1877. The “St George the Victorious” Chapel-Mausoleum was built between 1903 and 1907 in memory of Russian and Romanian soldiers killed during the fighting for Pleven in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878.
The “Tsar Liberator Alexander II” House Museum presents episodes from the Russo-Turkish War and the Siege of Pleven. The Regional Historical Museum has an open-air exhibition in a park covering 37 decares.
Wine
The Wine Museum in Pleven is located in Kaylaka Park opposite the Totlebenov Val Dam. Its historic hall displays artefacts related to winemaking from the time of the ancient Thracians, Greeks and Romans to the present day. The museum offers wine tastings conducted by a specialist as a short sommelier course.
