Zhitnitsa: Hotels and Accommodation

In Zhitnitsa, the Trakiets Equestrian Base offers horse riding and introductory lessons with qualified instructors in indoor and outdoor arenas. The training is aimed at children, adults, tourists, and recreational riders. Zhitnitsa is located approximately 30 km north of Plovdiv and 5 km from the municipal center of Kaloyanovo. Culture

The settlement history of Zhitnitsa is traced back to an Ottoman çiftlik recorded in 1646 between a nearby gorge and the Tikla River. The settlement grew around this çiftlik after Paulician settlers from Sopot and from Kalabrovo, now called Iganovo, were relocated there.

The Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Zhitnitsa was consecrated on September 16, 1923. It underwent extensive renovation in 2019–2020, receiving new interior furnishings and a renovated altar area. In 2021, a new digital organ and a new statue of the Virgin Mary were consecrated in the church.

Three recurring community events are associated with Zhitnitsa: a carnival on the Sunday during the carnival season, a traditional fair on the seventh Sunday after Easter, and the Zhitnitsa Festival on the third Saturday in September. Kukovden is the third and final evening of Zhitnitsa’s Kukeri festivities and marks the arrival of spring.

Nature

An eco-trail follows the Tikla River in Zhitnitsa and offers an opportunity for walking or outdoor sports. The Trakiets Equestrian Base was established on the Tikla River in 2012 and has additional pastures, paddocks, and meadows covering an area of 130 decares.

Cuisine

Delikates 2 began producing meat products in 1995 at its facility in Zhitnitsa. Delikates Jitnica uses the slogan “The sausages of Zhitnitsa”.

In addition to hotel guests, Trakiets Restaurant also welcomes external visitors. It serves homemade meat and vegetable dishes prepared with fresh products and spices from Zhitnitsa. The winery at Complex Trakiets offers wine tastings with gourmet dishes for groups of more than 10 people by prior reservation.
