The Shumen Plateau includes a 3,896-hectare protected area designated in 1980 to preserve plant and animal species, the plateau's landscape, and places suitable for recreation and tourism. This protected area has 11 marked hiking routes, shelters, pavilions, picnic furniture, and options for overnight stays and dining.

The Shumen Fortress can be reached via tourist trails from Kyoshkovete Park and via a maintained asphalt road. The surrounding area contains meadows suitable for outings in nature.

The Kabiyuk Stud Farm lies 13 kilometers from the center of Shumen, near Konyovets. It includes a horse museum, the Battenberg summer residence, and an icon exhibition. In addition, horses and foals can be observed by prior arrangement.
