Silistra: Hotels and accommodations

Silistra’s ancient Durostorum and the medieval Drastar were founded in 106 AD on the orders of Emperor Trajan. Silistra offers tourist infrastructure with hotels, restaurants, information boards, and a Tourist Information Centre. Culture

The Ethnographic Museum – Silistra preserves and researches the material and spiritual culture of the people of Dobrudzha. The Medzhidi Tabia Fortress is one of the best-preserved examples of Ottoman fortifications from the mid-19th century. The Patriarchal Temple and Patriarchal Palace were discovered and preserved on the banks of the Danube.

The Roman City Villa in Silistra was built in the 2nd century in the civilian settlement next to the camp of the XI Claudia Legion. The Kurshumlu Mosque in Silistra was built by Ottoman architects in the first decades of the 17th century.

The Silistra Art Gallery presents more than 1,500 classical and contemporary works of Bulgarian visual art. It also offers expert guided tours, educational programs, and themed lectures.

Nature

Silistra lies on the banks of the Danube. The Danube Garden offers views of the Danube, a recreational area, and play areas for children. The Danube Garden is also home to unique protected tree species identified by labels.

The Srebarna Nature Reserve lies 16 km west of Silistra and protects a wetland on the West Palearctic flyway. It provides breeding grounds for 99 bird species as well as seasonal habitat for around 80 migratory bird species.

Near Silistra lies the Badzhaliyata sanctuary in a canyon within a cave reached through a tunnel cut into the rock. Approximately 10 km southeast of Silistra lies a Thracian religious rock complex with four sanctuaries.
