The Historical Museum in Nova Zagora was founded in 1921 by the Zagorie Archaeological Society and the history teacher Nikola Stefanov Koychev. It preserves more than 40,000 collection items, including archaeological, numismatic, historical-documentary, ethnographic, and paleontological materials.
About 10 kilometers from Nova Zagora lies the Karanovo settlement mound, described as one of the oldest prehistoric mounds in Europe. Its cultural layers represent all prehistoric periods from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age; the settlement mound was inhabited for approximately 3,000 years. Artifacts from the Karanovo settlement mound are exhibited in museums in Sofia and Nova Zagora.
In 2025, a National Amateur Theater Festival was held in Nova Zagora.

The Samardala Festival included a bazaar with products seasoned with samardala. The festival also featured a culinary exhibition and a competition with dishes made with samardala.
Nature and surroundings
Near Nova Zagora lies Korten Mineral Baths, which is listed as a balneological resort in the Tundzha Valley and is located 15 kilometers north of Nova Zagora. The hot mineral water, indicated there as having a temperature of 57 °C, is used for balneological treatment and prevention programs.
The Zhrebechevo Reservoir is also located nearby, with arms suitable for fishing. Sport fishing and canoe-kayak competitions have been held there; there are also facilities and areas for recreation, fishing, and water sports.
The peaks of Zubcheto and Kurt Kaya form the highest point in the municipality of Nova Zagora. Kurt Kaya reaches 542 meters. A marked ecological trail leads along the ridge and is suitable for inexperienced hikers.
