Geographical Location

Gurmazovo is located immediately next to Bozhurishte and 17 km from the Bulgarian capital – two location details that also apply to travellers wishing to book a hotel in Gurmazovo.

History and Culture

During Ottoman rule, Gurmazovo was known as Bogatovo. The village is home to the community centre Народно читалище „Богатово 2015“. The Church of the Holy Spirit has been designated as one of Gurmazovo’s most attractive sights.

Spirituality and Accessibility

Denkova koriya is designated as a tourist site in Gurmazovo and features a votive cross. The votive cross at the chapel is an exception to the general access restriction in Gurmazovo. Most votive crosses and archaeological finds in the village are currently not accessible to visitors.

Nature and Landscape

The former occurrence of the narrow-leaved peony in Gurmazovo was recorded as extinct by 2014 due to agricultural ploughing. The Tesnolist bozhur protected area covers 13.5 hectares in Voluyak.
