Maglizh: Hotels and Accommodation

History

Those wishing to book a hotel in Maglizh can then continue their accommodation search. The complex consists of a church, residential and farm buildings, as well as two chapels. During the Bulgarian National Revival, the monastery first opened a boys’ school and then a girls’ school; in 1870, it became a progymnasium with an extensive library.

The Maglizh Monastery complex also includes a museum cell associated with Vasil Levski that was restored in 2018, a former monastic school cell, and an incense vessel with a Greek inscription dating from 1233.

In Roman and medieval times, Maglizh served as a fortress and road station at the intersection of ancient roads. In 1869, residents of Maglizh founded a community center described as Bulgaria’s first rural community center.

Culture

Maglizh hosted the National Festival of Ethnicities “Equal in Difference”, where songs, dances, and customs of various ethnic communities were presented. The Maglizh ethnic festival featured home-cooked food and specialties associated with the Bulgarian, Karakachan, and Roma communities living and working in the town. One edition of the festival included a tasting exhibition of dishes and ritual breads entitled “Grandmother’s Kitchen”.

Nature

The Waterfall Stalba eco-trail leads over the peaks of Popak, Stefancha, Krastilcha, and Yaitseto. It is 9.4 kilometers long and considered a difficult route; it also passes near Vinishki Kamen and continues towards Big Skok. Waterfall Stalba is described as being stepped, with this form having been created by flowing water.
