Shkorpilovtsi: Hotels and Accommodation

Nature

The “Kamchiyski Sands” protected area covers 4,537.794 decares. It protects Bulgaria’s largest dune complex and includes all types of dune habitats. The protected area also includes territory in Shkorpilovtsi.

The dune habitats transition into riparian forests along flowing waters and oak forests.

History

At the southern endpoint of the route in the Shkorpilovtsi resort complex, there is an archaeological site. It includes a partially visible early Bulgarian earthwork rampart measuring 2,125 metres in length.

The earthwork rampart runs along both banks of the Fundakliyska River at its mouth into the sea. It is part of a larger archaeological complex in the Shkorpilovtsi area.

Trails

The “Kamchiyski Sands” interpretation trail is a walking route with a northern and a southern branch along the seacoast and the sand dunes. It begins at the turnoff from the Novo Oryahovo–Shkorpilovtsi road towards the coast, near the former Izgrev campsite. The parking area for the route can be reached by car or bicycle.

In the “Kamchiyski Sands” protected area, driving motor vehicles outside existing roads is generally prohibited.
