Culture and History

The Church of Saint Paraskeva–Petka Tarnovska in Kozarevets was built in 1850; the village’s first cell school was established in 1855. The Orthodox Church of Saint Paraskeva–Petka Tarnovska in Kozarevets was rebuilt in the same year after the 1913 earthquake.

October 14, the feast day of Saint Paraskeva–Petka Tarnovska, is the patronal feast of Kozarevets’s church of the same name. The Petkovden celebration includes a kurban feast and a festive program attended by residents and guests.

The renovated Zemedelets-1899 building houses an information center, a conference hall with 45 seats, and an exhibition hall featuring traditional costumes and objects from everyday life in the region.

Village Life and the Stage

Amateur theater in Kozarevets began in 1897 with a performance of Kara Tanas. The Parashkev Parashkevov theater troupe at the community center has achieved laureate status at republican amateur theater festivals. At the 13th National Petropavlovski Festival, the Avliga folk group from Kozarevets received the festival’s laureate title.

Festivals and Customs

The Tulum of Kozarevets is also known as the Bachelor Wedding, Bartholomew Wedding, or Men’s Wedding. The Tulum ritual is held in Kozarevets every four years.

Culinary Traditions

The Kozarevets Club for Traditional Culinary Arts represents the village at regional and national culinary festivals. In addition, Kozarevets hosts the annual Chicken Soup Day culinary competition, during which chicken soup is prepared in public.

Transport and Local History

Kozarevets is located near the first-class I-4 (E772) Sofia–Varna road and has very good road connections to the surrounding settlements. Kozarevets railway station opened in 1901 as a stopping point and in 1910 as a railway station. It served the residents of Kozarevets, Dobri dyal, Pisarevo, and Rodina.
