Krapje was added to the Croatian Register of Cultural Monuments in 1990 because of its exceptionally valuable core of old wooden houses. In 1995, the village was declared an architectural heritage village.

The Krapje Visitor Centre is located on the grounds of a restored Posavina wooden house. It includes a multimedia hall, a small gallery, a souvenir shop and sanitary facilities, and provides information about Krapje and Lonjsko polje Nature Park.

The village is also home to the ethnological collection of the Palaić family. It comprises more than 170 objects, mainly textiles, woodwork and ceramics, and illustrates the way of life, clothing, livelihood, knowledge and skills of a typical family in Krapje. Krapje also continues the tradition of holding an event every year in mid-September as part of the European Heritage Days.

Nature

The Borderers’ Trail begins in Krapje, heads towards the Orlinci pasture and continues to the Krapje Đol ornithological reserve. The trail is 5 kilometres long and takes approximately two and a half to three hours on foot. Krapje Đol is Croatia’s largest breeding site for spoonbills.

Things to Do

Bicycle rental is available at the Krapje Visitor Centre. The Posavina Horse programme can take visitors from the Krapje Information Centre, accompanied by a guide or educational escort, to pastures near Mužilovčica or Repušničko polje. The Posavina horse is an indigenous Croatian horse breed.
