Culture

Majur became a defensive border area in the early 16th century because of Ottoman attacks across the Una. The old school building in Majur was built in the late 19th century on a plot of land connected with the command of an 18th-century military company, and has atmospheric and cultural-historical value. The Chapel of St Michael in Majur was built in 1862 and is an example of the late Baroque classicism of the Military Frontier.

Nature

The local PPLP 01 route is a 23.7-kilometre cycling tourism route that passes through Majur. It crosses flat lowlands with some more challenging climbs, cultural landscapes connected with the Sava and Una, settlements, and the forests of Banovina and Pounje. The regional cycling plan describes the PPLP 01 signs as being positioned at intervals of 3 kilometres.

Woonko – Centar vune Majur is located at Davorina Trstenjaka 29 in Majur. Woonko is an educational centre for visitors of all ages and is particularly designed for children. On weekdays, it is open to visitors by prior arrangement and with expert guidance. During an educational visit in 2024, participants took part in a wet felting workshop and made a souvenir in the form of a chestnut cone. During an educational visit in 2024, Woonko-Centar vune Majur also presented an interactive sheep-shearing experience with VR goggles and a game about sheep.

Events

The first vune festival in Majur took place on 15 April 2023 for International Wool Day.

Transport

Majur has a railway station on the R102 regional line. It runs between Sunja, Volinja and the state border in the direction of Dobrljin.
