Culture
The parish church of St. Michael the Archangel in Drenovci dates back to 1797. At Noć muzeja in Drenovci on January 31, 2020, 300 years of continuous church activity in Cvelferija were commemorated. Liturgical vestments and church furnishings from most of the parishes in Cvelferija were exhibited, including vestments from the parish of St. Michael the Archangel in Drenovci. Noć muzeja has been held continuously in Drenovci since 2013.
Events
Pjesnički susreti in Drenovci is an event dedicated to preserving and promoting literary creation and the cultural heritage of Slavonia. Renowned poets and members of the Croatian Writers’ Society from Croatia and neighboring countries, as well as young, not yet established authors from Slavonia, perform at the event. Pjesnički susreti includes an exhibition of poets’ first published works.
The folklore and cultural event “Raspjevana Cvelferija” was first held in Drenovci in 1990 and serves to preserve and promote the traditions, customs, and dances of Cvelferija. Cultural and artistic societies from the villages of Cvelferija, as well as guests from other parts of Croatia or from abroad, perform there. On October 20, 2024, the Muzej Cvelferije held the sixth military and border-history procession, “Čuvali smo granicu na Savi,” in the courtyard of the successor of the Brkić family in Drenovci.
Geographical Location
Drenovci is located on the Spačva–Brčko road (Bosnia and Herzegovina). The town is also near the Vinkovci–Gunja–Brčko railway line (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
In the wider regional area around Drenovci, the Svetište Majke dobre nade – Šumanovci sanctuary is located in the area of LAG Šumanovci and is described as the oldest sanctuary in Vukovar-Srijem County. This area also contains numerous churches and cemeteries of historical and cultural significance, some of which are protected as immovable cultural heritage sites.
