Beli: Hotels and Accommodation
As an acropolis-type settlement, Beli is situated on a 130 m-high hill above the east coast of northern Cres, at a prehistoric hillfort site. At the same time, the village occupies the site of the Roman settlement of Caput Insulae, which was founded at a prehistoric hillfort. History and Cultural Heritage
Beli’s cultural and historical village ensemble is a protected cultural asset listed in the Croatian Register of Cultural Heritage. The cemetery in Beli contains the Chapel of Saint Anthony the Abbot, which is considered a protected immovable cultural asset. The Church of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary in the Temple in Beli is also a protected immovable cultural asset. Beli’s olive mill, known as a “toš”, is likewise protected as a protected immovable cultural asset.
The archaeological remains in present-day Beli include a Roman temple and a forum. The Roman bridge of Beli is approximately 2,000 years old, 8 metres long, and the only surviving bridge on the coast from that period.
Nature and Hiking
The Griffon Vulture Visitor and Rescue Centre in Beli offers a multimedia exhibition about griffon vultures and life in the Tramuntana. It also features occasional photography exhibitions, children’s workshops, and information about the work of the rescue centre. Tramuntana II is a 5 km-long hiking trail from Beli to Frantin and back.
Coast
Beli Beach is a well-maintained natural pebble beach next to the village’s small harbour. It can be reached by car as far as a car park at the beach; alternatively, a path leads down from the village. There is a diving centre at Beli Beach. The Beli Zip Line begins 35 m above sea level and ends at the caves at the end of the beach.
