Ripenda Kras: Hotels and accommodations

Ripenda Kras is a low hilly area with a highest point of 474 meters; the area is predominantly hilly and karstified.

Geographical location

The local road LC 50155 runs between Ripenda Kras and Labin via ŽC5104 and is listed as having a length of 1.952 kilometers.

Trails

The official Teran cycling route is a 46-kilometer loop starting at Rabac Riva, includes 1,000 meters of elevation gain, and takes approximately 4.5 to 5 hours.

The IstraBike Labin–Rabac map lists Ripenda Kras–Bembići at kilometer 36 and at an elevation of 278 meters as a cycling route point. Regional cycling route 402 Teran runs through Ripenda Kras and connects Rabac, Ripenda, Plomin Luka, Štrmac, Sv. Martin, and Labin.

A hiking route following the markings of the Labinski Planinarski Put leads through forests and meadows to an asphalt road near the houses of the hamlet of Ripenda Kras.

The Teran cycling route runs from Labin via Ripenda to Gornji Rabac and then to Rabac's waterfront promenade.

History

The local cemetery is home to the Church of Saint Nicholas, dating from the 18th century.

Under Italian administration, a mine shaft was opened in Ripenda and closed in the 1980s.

In the hamlet of Vicani, a primary school with Croatian as the language of instruction was opened in 1907.

The Ripenda area was almost uninhabited until the end of the 16th century; from the 17th century onward, more intensive settlement began as a result of arrivals from Dalmatia.

Ripenda was an important partisan base during the Second World War.

Traditional livelihoods in Ripenda consisted primarily of livestock farming and, to a lesser extent, agriculture; at the beginning of the 20th century, there was also mining and seafaring there.
