Pićan preserves remnants of its medieval fortification walls and a town gate. The gate area includes an excavated defensive moat and a bridge structure; the town gate is described as the best-preserved part of the walls.

History and culture

The Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a historic episcopal church. A major reconstruction and expansion in the 17th and 18th centuries resulted in a three-nave basilica with side chapels.

The Istrian Centre for Intangible Culture is located in a building identified as part of a baroque palace. The centre documents and interprets living intangible cultural practices of Istria.

Nature

The Franz Ferdinand viewpoint and the Hill of Saint Michael offer views of the hilly landscape of central Istria, fertile valleys, Učka and surrounding settlements.

The St. Roch Way leads from Pićan to the 24.5-metre-high Sopot Waterfall and is connected to the three-kilometre-long St. Simon Way towards Gračišće. The annual Pićan People Day combines a festival of bottled wines with wine tastings, literary performances in the local subdialect and a staged Pićan legend.
