Raša lies among green hills and is known for its distinctive architecture. The town combines mining history with reconstructed paths, the small Centar Arsia mining museum, and distinctive architecture. For travelers wishing to book a hotel in Raša, the accommodation search follows below.

History

Raša is a purpose-built mining town whose settlement was constructed in 547 days in the early 20th century. It was built as a modern town for miners and their families, with a school, hospital, and cinema. Between 1928 and 1966, the Raša Mine employed more than 10,000 miners. Raša is also associated with historic architectural innovations.

Culture

The central square is dominated by St Barbara's Church. Its roof structure recalls the supports used underground, while the attached bell tower resembles a miner's lamp. St Barbara's Church was built in 1937 and has a cubist structure. The covered porch with three semicircular arches is reminiscent of an Istrian loggia.

Centar Arsia, a small mining museum, is located on Raša Square. Centar Arsia is accessible to people with disabilities and reduced mobility. The museum reconstructs a mine shaft and contains original rails as well as video projections. Kino Raša is a former cinema that has been converted into a multifunctional multimedia space presenting Raša's history and architecture.

Mining

Kova Experience offers guided tours of the mine that recreate Raša's mining past and take visitors into the mine. A one-and-a-half-kilometre section of Potkop Karlota is open in one direction and accessible for visits.

Paths

Kovarski Puti reconstructs the paths that miners once took to work. The themed routes of Kovarski Puti give visitors an experience of the miners' demanding daily lives. A 15 km-long path begins in Raša next to St Barbara's Church, follows a former mine railway line, and leads past a quarry and a mine back to the central square. The Liburnia cycle route presents the local mining history and Raša.
