Krk Cathedral was built in the 5th century as a three-nave early Christian basilica on the remains of Roman baths. The cathedral treasury houses a gilded Frankopan altarpiece dating from 1477.

Frankopan Castle is the only surviving secular medieval monument in Krk. The Krk Interpretive Centre presents the Frankopan heritage, replicas of medieval weapons, and archaeological monuments outdoors.

Nature and Trails

H134 Tajne napuštenog naselja is an easy 8.5-kilometre circular hiking trail. It starts at Krk’s Upper Town Gate and leads towards Lakmartin. The wider context of H134 includes the scattered remains of the abandoned settlement of Lizer, which was depopulated in the 19th century.

H127 Šetnja zelenim poluotokom is an easy 8.1-kilometre hiking trail in Krk. Aleppo pine forests grow in Prniba, which also provides access to small secluded beaches and rocky shores.

H121 Putovima zlatnih kapi krčkog blaga – zapad is a 14.6-kilometre hiking trail that begins in Krk and runs through the city’s western hinterland. B-427 Putovima sedam sela also begins in Krk and forms a cycling route through the city’s western hinterland.

Coast and Getting There

Krk can be reached by road via the Krk Bridge, by regular bus services, and by boat. The port of Krk accommodates boats up to 15 metres long; ferry connections include Cres–Valbiska and Lopar–Valbiska.

The beaches of the town of Krk have rocky or sandy seabeds. Their facilities include beach volleyball courts, playgrounds, diving centres, and sailing centres.

Local Cuisine

Kuća maslinovog ulja Nono in Krk provides information about olive oil production and offers tastings. Imbrijagon is an aromatic dry biscuit traditionally prepared in the town of Krk before holidays. According to local legend, the Krk Princess Cake is associated with the wedding of Nikola Frankopan and Dorotea in the 15th century.
