Delnice: Hotels and Accommodation

Anyone wishing to book a hotel in Delnice can then continue searching for accommodation. Japlenški vrh is a protected park forest established in 1953 in the area of Grad Delnice. It is home to a species-rich beech-fir forest of the Omphalodo-Fagetum type. Notable features recorded there include prominent karst sinkholes and caves. The dolomite bedrock supports populations of Christmas rose, hepatica and Hacquetia epipactis, which are rare or absent on limestone. Numerous branching walking paths on Japlenški vrh are directly connected to the urban fabric of Delnice.

Nature and Trails

The 9 km-long, well-marked Japlenški vrh–Golubinjak hiking trail connects two protected park forests. The 5 km-long MTB trail from Delnice also runs through the Japlenški vrh park forest.

History and Culture

A preserved testimony to local history is Popovićev mlin, an electric mill built in Delnice in 1925 with its original milling equipment; visits are possible by prior arrangement. House Rački at Supilova 94 in Delnice has likewise been prepared for visits and is a protected architectural and ethnological heritage site. The house is estimated to be 200 to 300 years old. Its reconstruction and protection were intended to preserve its original character.

The present-day Church of St. John the Baptist in Delnice was built from 1825 to 1829 and has late Baroque main and side altars. It has three naves; the altar of St. John the Baptist dominates the central nave. The consecration of the church is associated with 2 June 1829, after the former church in Vidm had completely burned down. Vidm in Delnice was the site of a former cemetery and former parish church mentioned in records from 1732.

Smaller landmarks also preserve local traditions. A well by the Delnice Stream Potok was built in 1903 by three local coachman families. The Potok area served as a resting place on an old trade route between the inland region and the sea. The Chapel of the Holy Cross on Kalvarija underwent extensive restoration from 2003 onward; the aim was to restore its religious function. The traditional folk costume of Delnice is predominantly white and includes a colorful fiertof apron, a woven wool belt, a coral necklace and a kluofnca clasp.

In June, the Ivanjske kresnice tradition is presented in Delnice. Traditionally, unmarried girls threw daisy wreaths onto wooden roofs to find out when they would get married.

Activities in the Surrounding Area

Nearby Petehovac was expanded around Croatia's first cable car and first ski slopes for the 1962 Kurikkala Cup. Petehovac also offers seasonal summer and winter activities by prior arrangement. In Delnice, Pansion Lovački has a mini-zoo with deer as well as cycling and fitness trails.

Regional Cuisine

The cuisine of Delnice and Gorski Kotar makes use of potatoes, sauerkraut, beans, pork and poultry. It also includes preserved winter vegetables and fruit compotes. Regional specialties also include game, mushrooms and freshwater fish such as trout.
