Lukovdol is home to the Ivan Goran Kovačić Memorial Museum, located in the poet’s birthplace. The permanent exhibition is dedicated to his life and work and includes sections on Goran and Lukovdol, his literary and journalistic work, the regional heritage, and the Goranovo proljeće poetry festival. The museum grounds also include an amphitheatre and a monument created by the sculptor Vojin Bakić next to the poet’s renovated birthplace.

Since 1963, the Goranovo proljeće poetry gatherings have been held in Lukovdol on the first day of spring, 21 March. The village lies above the Kupa River. The parish of Lukovdol was founded in 1604; Lukovdol is also described as one of the oldest settlements in Gorski kotar.

In the Middle Ages, Lukovdol was owned by the Frankopans. In the 16th century, the village was burned down by the Ottomans and subsequently rebuilt.

Tetinja jama lies above Lukovdol. Pottery dating from the second millennium BC and from the 15th and 16th centuries was found there. Archaeological interpretations suggest that Tetinja jama served as a refuge for the inhabitants of the surrounding area during Ottoman incursions.

Cycling

The MTB route Staza Goranovog proljeća, listed as a circular route, runs from Vrbovsko via Lukovdol and Nadvučnik back to Vrbovsko. Staza 3. Lukovdol–Severin (Carskom cestom) heads towards Lukovdol, then climbs towards Nadvučnik and Stubica before returning to Vrbovsko; it is rated as moderately difficult.
