Staro selo was originally the island of Capocesto, also known as Gola glava. It was only later that a causeway built from fill connected the island to the mainland. On the eve of Primošten’s most important celebration, the Svetkovina Gospe od Loreta, a fire in the shape of the words “Ave Maria” is lit around the parish church and on Mount Gaj. The mountain is also home to the Our Lady of Loreto viewpoint. The statue, including its pedestal, is 17 metres high. At sunset, the view stretches from there across the Primošten peninsula and the Primošten and Šibenik archipelagos.

Primošten lace is also part of the local culture: it has been part of festive dress for centuries and was first mentioned in written documents in 1550. The Pekljica lace-makers’ association offers lace-making courses and demonstrations, and has held lace-making workshops at Primošten Primary School for years.
