Culture and History
On the northeastern edge of the hamlet of Rudeži in Donji Vinjani lies the medieval Rudežove kuće cemetery. It was established in the 15th century. The site contains 22 stećci, predominantly chests and slabs, as well as a gable stone, or tall stećak. In the Vinjani parish, Rudežove kuće is the only large necropolis among nine sites containing stećci from the Croatian Middle Ages.
Rudežove kuće is part of Donji Vinjani’s registered cultural heritage as an individual immovable cultural asset. The Chapel of St Catherine is also part of the registered cultural heritage as an individual immovable cultural asset. The Chapel of Sveta Kata was built near the parish house in 1904; the Church of Sveta Kata in Donji Vinjani was extensively renovated in 2000.
The Church of St Nicholas Tavelić is located in Donji Vinjani on the edge of Imotsko polje. Its construction began in 1973, and the church is 25 metres long and 17 metres wide.
Religious Sites
Tomislavljevo is a small Marian memorial chapel and shrine in a grotto, built by the residents of Vinjani in 1925. The old grotto of Tomislavljevo was restored and given a new statue of Mary.
On 25 November, the feast of St Catherine of Alexandria was celebrated in the Church of Sveta Kata in Donji Vinjani with services, a three-day preparation and the opportunity for confession. The feast of St Nicholas Tavelić was celebrated in Donji Vinjani on 14 November 2021 and 14 November 2022.
Routes
The Camino Imota route begins at the state border in Vinjani Donji. After a few kilometres, the Camino Imota turns towards the Church of St Nicholas Tavelić.
A 20-kilometre cycle path leads from Zmijavci along the Vrljika River and via Runovići, continuing across the fields to the hamlet of Rudeži in Vinjani Donji.
Landscape
In the immediate surroundings of Imotski lies the Biokovo–Imotski Lakes Geopark, with thematic trails, lakes and river springs. Biokovo Nature Park offers trails and a habitat for many endemic species; from its highest peak, the view extends across Central Dalmatia.
